Observability is paramount for successful operation of large microservices architectures. It requires robust telemetry collected from applications. OpenTelemetry is a new project at Cloud Native Computing Foundation formed as a merger of OpenTracing and OpenCensus projects. OpenTelemetry makes robust, portable telemetry a built-in feature of cloud-native software.This talk is an introduction to OpenTelemetry, the problems it solves, the technical design of the APIs and libraries, and the community process around it.
