The rumors of REST‚ demise are greatly exaggerated. REST, especially when coupled with hypermedia, is still a great choice to power responsive, loosely coupled applications. Properly harnessed, the benefits of REST and hypermedia allow you to evolve your APIs and their clients independently, handle massive scale elegantly, and even fix escaped client bugs by changing only server side code. Using examples from Comcast‚ Xfinity Stream apps and their hypermedia backend API, we will discuss how hypermedia has helped us support diverse client platforms, evolve our applications, and scale our architecture ‚without versioning the API in over five years.
